EDM’s Most Anticipated Young Gun
Full name: Porter Robinson
Aliases: Antigon Moore, Ekowraith
Hometown: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
The bio: This self-taught bedroom DJ hit the big time at the grand old age of 18, when he signed a record deal with Skrillex’s OWSLA record label. After three years of producing some of EDM’s biggest hits, Porter retreated to his studio to work on his debut album. Through emotional posts on his Facebook page—here, we pause dramatically to let that sink in—Porter hinted that his new sound will be wildly different from the (some say) formulaic “bangers” that have fueled his career thus far.
Whether this truly represents a new direction or is just another savvy marketing move remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: Porter’s fans love him all the same.
The must-hear: “Sea of Voices” and “Sad Machine,” two singles off Porter’s much-hyped debut album, Worlds. Unlike his earlier work, both are hazily atmospheric tracks that work better on your headphones than the dance floor.
Sounds like: Love songs sung by lonely robots.
